How to connect your WARDOGS server to RCON

Before you start

• A WARDOGS community server that you are authorized to administer.
• RCON enabled by your hosting provider or in your server configuration.
• The RCON endpoint and port. Use the address your host supplies, which may differ from the game connection address.
• The RCON password from your hosting control panel or server configuration.
• A Discord account for community setup and staff sign-in.

Do not post the RCON password in a public support message.

If the endpoint details are unclear, ask your hosting provider for its WARDOGS RCON connection settings.

Connect the server

1. Open community setup. Go to WarGuardian setup and follow the sign-in instructions.
2. Add your community and server details. Use a community and server name your staff will recognize.
3. Enter the RCON connection. Copy the endpoint, port and password from your hosting provider. Keep the HTTP or HTTPS scheme that matches the endpoint your host provides.
4. Test and confirm. WarGuardian checks whether it can reach the server and use its RCON interface. Correct any reported connection error before confirming setup.
5. Invite your staff. Assign access and roles to the people who administer the server. Each staff member signs in with their own account.

What if the RCON connection fails?

The server rejects the password

Check the current RCON password in your host panel.

The game server login, hosting account password and RCON password may be different credentials.

The connection is refused or times out

Confirm that the game server is running, RCON is enabled and the endpoint uses the correct port.

Ask your provider whether its firewall or access rules permit the connection.

The endpoint does not return WARDOGS RCON data

Check that you entered the RCON endpoint rather than a game join address or a hosting website URL.

Ask your provider which endpoint is intended for RCON clients.

After the first connection

Check the dashboard player list and the available server controls.

Add staff roles that match the work each person performs.

The RCON connection and the kill feed provide different inputs, so connecting RCON alone does not create historical kill records.
